Matthews Country Day was founded in 1967 before child care became what it is today by a Registered Nurse. Faye Benton Cotty had become very disenchanted with the poor child care her children were receiving. She stepped out on a limb, quit Nursing and started her own child care. The beginnings were very humble, in a small Jim Walter home with a small sign in the ground in the front yard saying "child care". But her ambitions were high. She stuck to her principles, persevered, invested most of her earnings back into the business and made the center what it is today. She is proud today to be the owner of a 14,000 square foot building with a 3 acre campus, a wonderful staff and a lot of outstanding children.
